Applying Fake Eyelashes

Written by Karen Bates (last updated April 10, 2020)

There are many events that call for a dramatic, stand-out look. It can be fun to look for clothing to help add flair to your look, and finding a new hairstyle can be exciting, too. But one of the most important parts of creating a bold look lies in makeup application.

There are numerous ways you can use and apply makeup to your face to completely alter your look. The way you do your makeup can make a huge difference, and can make or break your overall look.

Although there are many things to consider when applying makeup, it is especially important to pay attention to you lashes. If you consider your eyes to be your best feature, you will definitely want to bring attention to them at a special event or even during your daily routine. If you feel like your eyes are not as noticeable as other facial features and you want them to stand out, adding definition to them will help draw attention to this area.

Fake eyelashes are one way to add drama to your eyes and let them stand out. Instead of clumping layers of mascara onto your lashes, you might want to try applying fake lashes to get a striking makeup look instead.

To get great results when applying fake lashes, follow these steps:

  1. Choose lashes. Choose what kind of lashes you want. Make sure to pick appropriate lashes for the occasion. For instance, if you are going to a dress-up party, you can get away with crazy colors and glitter. If it's a more formal event, however, you might prefer to go with something a little less extreme.
  2. Remove makeup from eyes. Clean your eyes and make sure there is no makeup on your lashes or in the eye area.
  3. Glue eyelashes. Use eyelash glue to make a thin line on your eyelid where you want to adhere the fake lashes. Don't go for really cheap glue—you want to make sure that the lashes stick to your eyes securely.
  4. Applying fake lashes. Using tweezers lift the fake lashes for one eye up to the glue and line it up carefully. Be certain that you don't leave a large gap between the fake lashes and the real ones. Press the lash onto the skin and close your eye. Hold the lash long enough for the glue to dry. The length of time needed to secure the lash will depend on the glue you use.
  5. Apply makeup. Once the lash is adhered, you can apply makeup to your eyes if desired. If there are any gaps between your real and fake lashes, you can use eyeliner to hide these mistakes.
  6. Remove fake lashes. To remove fake lashes, use a damp washcloth to press against the lashes. Use tweezers to pull lashes from your eyes, and wash your face.

Although fake lashes may seem like a chore to apply sometimes, they can really give your eyes an exciting new look and can be totally worth the effort.
