Hairstyles for your Wedding Day

Written by Charlotte Wood (last updated May 4, 2022)

Your wedding day is probably one of the most important days of your entire life. You dream about it and plan all the various details, considering the colors, the flowers, your bridesmaids, your dress, and of course your groom! Your hair is no small detail to overlook, one that can pull together your entire bridal look. It's such an important decision so you want to make sure you make the right one. Here are some ideas to consider as you plan your most amazing day.

Like most other things that fall within the realm of fashion, your wedding hair follows the same basic rule: it needs to go with the rest of the look you've spent months and dreams creating. If you have an elegant dress and an extravagant ceremony, your hair should follow suit. If you're going for something more simple—silky, long flowing dress, intimate ceremony, small reception—then your hair should fall in line with that by being flowing and silky itself. Something important to remember is that your hair needs to match the line of your dress. It can't be too fancy or too understated, otherwise your whole look will be shot. You also don't need to go to a fancy salon to get your hair done; you can achieve beautiful wedding hair from the comfort of your own bathroom if you so desire!

When choosing a hairstyle for your special day, don't feel like you need to be a cookie cutter mold from your favorite bridal magazine. Those magazines are just to give you ideas, not dictate how you should look. The most important thing to remember though is to not lose yourself in the wedding. Imbue your personality in the entire presentation from the flowers to your dress to your hair. Don't do something for your wedding that you wouldn't even consider otherwise; your wedding is about you and you need to keep yourself there! Have a hairstyle you feel comfortable in, one that makes you feel pretty, even if it's not the most fancy or has a dozen real diamonds in the curls. Because this day is about you, you need to do what you want, not what your maid of honor, mother, or Vogue brides say.

If you keep in mind these few tips, especially the one of about maintaining your personality and character, you're one more step on your way to one of the happiest days of your life!
