Prom Fashion Basics for Girls
Let's face it. Nowadays, Prom night is more about making a fashion statement than attending a big dance. And although guys can look elegant and classy, the girls steal the show with their Prom attire. Although girls most often focus on the Prom dress, there are other fashion basics that girls need to know about in order to complete their look for the big night. Here are some great tips for Prom fashion basics for girls:
- Dress. Where do you find the perfect dress? Start months in advance of the Prom, searching online or in magazines for the look that you want. Decide first the style of dress you want and make sure that it will look right for your body type. Once you've decided upon a style, visit all of the stores in your area that sell Prom dresses and start trying them on. It may be an arduous process, but your Prom happens only once in a lifetime. Unlike your wedding dress, however, you can wear your Prom dress to other events, so you may wish to choose one that will serve double duty. When you try on the dresses, bring family members or friends to lend advice about how you look in them.
- Shoes. Although fashionable shoes are crucial to compliment your dress, they also must be comfortable since you will be standing and dancing in them for hours. Finding the right balance between fashion and comfort can be difficult, but it's not impossible. Although shopping for shoes online can be convenient, trying shoes on for Prom night is best, since you want to make sure they fit comfortably. If you want affordability, a good place to find Prom shoes is Payless Shoes, since they are quite fashionable and inexpensive. Wherever you find shoes, try them on, walk around in them in the store, and determine if they will compliment your dress.
- Jewelry. The jewelry you choose should not overpower your dress. If you choose a stunning pendant, wear stud earrings. If you choose chandelier or drop earrings, wear nothing at your neckline, or a simple strand necklace. A glittering bracelet will compliment a sleeveless or strapless dress, but a dress with long sleeves or a gloved ensemble requires no bracelet.
Accessorize your outfit to complete a polished look. Choose a small, elegant purse or clutch to carry your compact, lip-gloss, camera, and cell phone. If the weather is cool, wear a classy shrug, cape, or shawl to coordinate your dress. Don't let your date show up at your front door only to see you wearing your everyday coat over your elegant dress. If your dress is strapless, consider accessorizing with matching opera gloves for a dramatic look.
