Slimming Down for Swimwear

Written by Lecia DeBrine (last updated September 2, 2022)

Everyone wants to look great on that upcoming trip to the beach, and shedding those last few pounds can happen if you give yourself some time. When you take care of your body and work with it instead of making it work for you, the changes in not only the shape of your body but also the energy it puts forth are unbelievable. Because no two bodies are the same everything affects us differently, but there are some ways to give your body what it needs and get the results you want.

  1. Leave that soda in the fridge. Drinking water has many advantages that people seem to ignore. Since your body is mostly comprised of water when it is getting a healthy supply it works more efficiently. From brain function to muscles every system increases productivity including your metabolism. The benefits of drinking more water may take a little longer to take effect, but stick to it and after a couple weeks the constant running to the bathroom will stop and you will notice a difference in your body.
  2. Make the most of a nice day. Go out for a walk, jog, or run; ride your bicycle, or play your favorite sport. Not only are you aiming for the exercise and the obvious benefits of working your body, but just being outside in the sunshine gives you a little more energy than if you were to exercise indoors granting you the stamina to go that extra half mile, or up that last hill. Do this a couple days a week and soon enough you will be able to go five miles instead of four.
  3. A trip to the gym a few times during the week can help you get the shape you want. Here you can focus on any problem areas, take classes, or get a trainer. If you do not have a membership to a gym there are many that offer free trials, or you can check out your local recreation center, often times the center is equipped with a gym and a membership will probably be cheaper. Even if you find that the gym is not your kind of place you can take the opportunity to ask a trainer if they can suggest some exercises you can do at home, most of them are willing to provide a few tips without making you sign up for anything.

Crash diets are never a healthy way to slim down and the weight will come back as soon as you return to your normal habits. Give yourself a few weeks or even a month prior to going to the beach and you can absolutely get the shape you want and maybe even that cute new swimsuit at the mall.
