Following trends and knowing fashion have never really interested me, but I do like to look good, feel good, and maybe turn a few heads when I go out. It is getting harder to master the turnaround of current fads, if you are like me, you cannot seem to keep up with what in style now and what has become a fashion faux pas. Because the trends change so quickly it will be easier if you do what I do and stick to the basics. There are a few simple pieces that will always look good no matter what the latest craze is.
Jeans are great for casual everyday wear, they have been around in some form for centuries and do not seem to be going away any time soon. Manufacturers now label the pants in a way that makes it less difficult to find a pair that fit you right. Owning a good pair or two of jeans is definitely worth the effort of trying on a dozen. Finding the right cut and color for you will definitely take some time in the fitting room, but a well fitting, dark wash pair of jeans will provide a comfortable casual look that never goes out of style.
Suits are perfect for work or special occasions. A well-tailored suit is a must have for both men and women. Straight off the rack most suits are going to be either too small or too big in some areas and just right in others. Purchase a suit that fits the largest part of your body and the portions that are too big can be taken in by a tailor. The color of your suit is up to you, but a nice black, gray, or navy suit will add some sophistication to your closet. Patterns on the suit itself should be small, for instance, a thin pin striping can take it from a simple suit to the perfect look for you.
An out on the town look for men can be achieved with a well cut sport coat. A neutral colored jacket is good for matching to most ensembles, black, grays, and browns are the most common. This can be added to a casual outfit for a dressier look, or used as a substitute for a suit coat to make a dressier look a little more casual. For women a nice cocktail dress can be worn for almost any occasion. Classic cuts and simple embellishments will ensure the timelessness of the dress. A black cocktail dress is a safe choice, but if you want color stick to the basic color wheel; Crazy, bright, and customized colors are more likely to be a passing fad than a nice red or blue.
When putting together an outfit, be sure you are choosing pieces that you like and are comfortable in, if you are constantly pulling at your clothes they will not last as long. When you have the confidence to wear your clothes, you can wear whatever you like. Stand up tall and tell yourself you look good, if you believe it, everyone else will too!
