Getting Rid of Flabby Arms

Written by Debra Wyatt (last updated September 28, 2022)

The problem with flabby arms is that they are caused by being overweight or because you have lost an extreme amount of weight. Each of these two problems will take some time and patience with toning up those flabby arms.

While it may seem that one of the hardest places to get rid of are flabby arms, that isn't necessarily true. In fact, one of the easiest places to tone up is a flabby arm if the flab is due to being overweight. You just need to know how. As you begin to diet you may first start to notice that weight loss appears everwhere else except with your arms. With a little hard work on your part and exercising your triceps you can have trim and toned arms. Try to exercise at least three times a week.

This is a simple exercise that will help tone up those flabby arms: Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Your feet should be evenly spaced apart so that they are even with your shoulders.

Place a weight in your left hand. Start out using a five pound weight and then work up. (The size of the weight doesn't matter—it's the repetitions that you are looking for.) With the palm of your hand facing the ceiling, raise your left arm all the way up while using your right hand to support the left arm at the elbow.

Moving your left arm, slowly bend your arm till the weight in your left hand rests behind your left shoulder. Counting to three slowly raise your left arm so that it is again pointing to the ceiling; hold your arm in that position for a second.

Slowly lower the weight back again to where the weight is resting behind your left shoulder. Counting to three once again raise your left arm so that it is once again pointing to the ceiling. Keep your right arm on your elbow and continue to give support.

Repeat this exercise eight times, eventually building up to fifteen times. Remember to pause between each repetition.

When you are finished exercising the left arm, repeat the procedure using the right arm holding the weight and the left arm giving support.

You may begin to see progress with more toned arms in about four weeks, depending on how flabby your arms were to begin with.

With women who were extremely overweight and have lost a large amount of weight, this procedure will help some, but the skin has lost some of its elasticity and exercising the triceps will only help a little. This is when you might consider other options like going to a body contour center and having laser-assisted liposuction.
