Skincare for Men

Written by Karen Bates (last updated March 26, 2021)

When you think of skincare, you might not think first of men's skin. With so many beauty products and skincare methods for women out there, it is not often that you consider men's skin or their skincare needs.

The truth is that a man's skin takes a lot of damage and needs to be properly cared for so it can be in the best shape possible. Shaving, sweating, rough conditions, and environmental factors can all have an impact on a man's skin, and to keep his skin healthy he will need to adhere to some kind of skin care routine every day.

There are many products for men that will help them achieve a healthier, softer complexion. Using various skin products can cleanse the skin, protect it, and keep it moisturized.

To get healthy skin that looks and feels great, try these ideas:

  • A little moisturizer or lotion can do wonders for dry skin. After washing your face morning and night, try putting on some moisturizer to help your skin stay soft and healthy. This is an especially important step for those with dry, flaky skin, and can help with skin that is irritated from shaving.
  • Don't forget the sun block! It is vital to the health of your skin that you shield it from harmful rays, even if you aren't going to be out in the sun long. Apply sun block to your face and other exposed areas everyday to keep your skin safe.
  • When shaving with a razor, your skin is at risk for redness, nicks and cuts. Help minimize the chances of harming your skin by using a sharp razor instead of a dull one. Shave with warm water, preferably during or after a shower. This helps reduce bumps and irritation. Also, be sure to use a shaving cream that will work well with your skin type. For instance, if you have sensitive skin, use something gentle.
  • It is important to wash your face often to help your skin stay healthy. To get a great cleansing wash, use face wash morning and night to remove dirt and excess oil from your skin. Lather cleanser into your skin for thirty to sixty seconds, then splash several times with water in your hands to rinse away the soap. There are cleansers out there for just about any skin type (such as sensitive or acne-prone) so you should be able to find the perfect choice for you.

Even though men can be overlooked sometimes when it comes to skincare, it is still important that men take care of their skin so it can stay healthy.
