Making Your Legs Smoother

Summary: It doesn't take a lot of expense or time to get your legs looking and feeling silky smooth. You can do this with items that you already have in your home. The key ingredient to having smooth and silky legs is to moisturize. When you add shine to your smooth legs, it is like adding a whole new dimension.

You may be wondering how to get those smooth legs you've always wanted. First, you will want to make sure that you have all the necessary items in the tub or shower before entering the bath. You will want to start out with a warm bath or shower. The warm water will help the pores on your legs to open. You don't want to take a hot bath or shower; hot water can dry out your skin.

The next step is to exfoliate your legs. Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells on the surface of your legs and will allow you to get a closer shave. You'll want to exfoliate at least once a week, and preferably twice a week—and always before you shave.

A very inexpensive way to exfoliate your legs is to take some sugar from your kitchen and rub it into your skin. After applying the exfoliating agent (the sugar) you need to rinse those legs off again with warm water.

If you want to get fancy you can buy exfoliation creams and use a loofah. You use the cream to do the exfoliation, and then use the loofah to wipe off the cream. Since the loofah picks up the cream and the dead skin cells, you'll want to make sure that you clean out the loofah completely—otherwise it can become a breeding ground for bacteria.

After exfoliating you are ready to shave your legs. Hairy legs just will not work with the short-skirt look or cropped pants. To shave your legs you need to use a lubricant of some sort, such as shaving foam or an inexpensive hair conditioner. The lubricant allows for a closer and smoother shave, without the chance of painful razor burn or rash. You will want to shave your legs every two to four days, depending on how much hair you have and how fast that hair grows back.

After applying the lubricant it is time to remove the hair. Use a good razor; the type doesn't matter as much as having a sharp razor cartridge in the razor. Remember to shave your legs up—start down by the ankles and moving up toward your thighs.

After shaving, rinse your legs off. Gently dry your legs by just patting them with a towel. When you put the moisturizer on your legs you will want to make sure that you massage the lotion well into your skin.

When you are done with these steps—warm water soak, exfoliation, shaving, drying, and moisturizing—your legs should feel soft, silky, and smooth.
