Avoiding Swimsuit Bulges

Summary: Swimsuit season is often a double-edged sword: it can either be great or not so great. Swimsuit bulges tend to make the season not so great, so do all you can to avoid the swimsuit bulge!

Do you hate that unfortunate bulge you may get during the summer that just happens to pop out when you're wearing your swimsuit? Hate how that looks? So do we. Sometimes when you go to the beach or the pool you have to tunnel your vision and avoid looking at people because so many people just don't know how to dress for the beach. For some bizarre, twisted reason the media has people thinking that anyone and everyone can wear a string bikini, when that's definitely not the case. (I don't find it too great when anyone wears a string bikini actually, whether you're model thin or not—too much body for my comfort). The key to avoiding unnecessary swimsuit bulge is simple.

You wear swimsuits that fit. Don't think that just because your favorite tabloid celebrity goes around in a couple pieces of fabric she deems decent and "attractive" means that you should. Good grief, who actually looks like a celebrity anyway? Most people actually don't look too great in bikinis; most women have a little bit of bulge and that's okay. The thing to keep in mind is to just not expose the whole world to that. No one wants to see a "muffin top" (the fat spilling over the edges of a too-tight swimsuit bottom) and no one wants to see folds of skin in the tummy area. Buy swimsuits that fit and preferably tankinis that only show a bit of midriff if that's a qualification for you or that show nothing at all. Believe it or not, bathing suits can be flattering without being trampy.

If you're body type or fitness level is such that even with a properly fitting bathing suit you still have more visible bulge than you're comfortable with, wear a t-shirt over your swimsuit. This never hurts and you can still enjoy the experience of being outdoors in the warm, summer sun without feeling self conscious. Believe me, people take less notice of you when you cover than if you show too much.

Avoiding swimsuit bulge ultimately comes down to simple concepts. You wear what fits you and it you still feel uncomfortable, don't hesitate to add another layer or two. It's not that big of a deal! Non one likes to see swimsuit bulge (or any other kind of bulge for that matter), so do what you need to flatter your body and make yourself comfortable. You don't need to avoid the beaches during those searing summer months, but just make sure that your attire choices aren't harming your appearance.
