Choosing the Right Hair Color

Choosing the Right Hair Brush

Summary: There are many types of hair brushes to choose from. Make sure you choose the kind of brush you buy according to your hair style and the length of your hair.

When it comes to styling your hair, one thing that is vital is to have the correct brush to achieve the look you want. There are many kinds of brushes that can have different effects on your hair, so you should know about what types are out there.

Which hair brush you need may also depend on your hair type. For instance, if you have long hair or curly hair, you might need a specific kind of brush. Be sure to take the kind of hair you have, as well as its length, into consideration.

So how do you know which brush you need for your hair? Look at these different brush types to get an idea of what might work best for you:

  • Paddle Brush. This brush is perfect for longer hair styles. It is big and flat and works to smooth hair and make it straighter. This kind of brush is good for taming hair and creating a sleek style.
  • Round Brush. This brush can be used to create volume or curls. Use it with a blow dryer to style your hair, turning the brush around your hair as you dry. There are many different brush sizes to choose from, and what size you need depends on your hair's length or the style you are going for.
  • Thermal Brush. If you want to get the most out of your blow dryer, this is the right brush for you. The brush is made of a material that conducts heat, so while you blow dry your hair you can use the heat to curl or style your hair with the brush. Using this brush, you can add plenty of volume and style to your hair. You can also find thermal brushes that are flat and work like a straightening iron.
  • Sculpting Brush. To add volume to your hair (especially for razor-cut styles) use this brush on short hair styles. Try back-combing to achieve volume.
  • Soft Bristle Brush. Brushes with soft bristles are easier on hair and create shine.

With so many different kinds of brushes, you can find varieties in a wide range of price ranges. Although you should be able to find a decent brush that is fairly inexpensive, you may want to invest in one or two brushes that are higher quality. Since a brush is something you are likely to use every day, it is worth the investment. Also, be sure to have a rat tail comb (a comb with a long, pointed handle) along with your brush collection. This comb is essential in creating many hairstyles and is a very helpful tool.
