Great Results with Hair Color

Hair coloring is a surefire to spice up your look and give you the change you've been seeking. One of the worst things, though, is when the process goes wrong and you're stuck with a bad hair color. Hair color doesn't have to be a hazardous venture though; with the right tips and the right tools, you'll be well on your toward stellar hair!

The number one tip is to go to a salon. I know it's easier (and most definitely cheaper) to buy the do-it-yourself kits, but there's too great a chance of something going wrong. My friend tried that once when she wanted to save some money. The color on the box wasn't too bad, but when she finished the process it did not turn out so hot—it was basically a fiasco. The only time I think boxed hair color could work is if it was for an "all over" color (as opposed to a base with highlights). If you do a do-it-yourself all-over color, then don't choose any kind of red or reddish color—that has too much potential to go horribly wrong. Rather, you should go with a dark brown or a pure blond color.

In the salon, make sure that you are able to talk to your stylist and tell her exactly what you want. Bringing pictures is probably a good idea and you need to clarify what you want as well as what you don't want; create boundaries so there's no misunderstanding. If your stylist is an especially good one, then she'll write down what you're saying for future reference and also she'll write down what you actually had done, so if you like it she can easily repeat it and if you don't like it then she can be sure not to do it again.

Great hair color happens with great colors. Whether you want you hair to look natural or not, use colors that are natural: chocolate, caramels, blonds, auburns. Stay away from definitely unnatural colors like Ariel red, blues, jet black, pink, aqua. I just think that colors like that, for hair, are not attractive and do not flatter you appearance as a whole. You can do the chunky streaks if you like, but keep the streaks in the natural hair colors category. Extreme colors just don't cut it.
