Oily Skin Care

Summary: Oily skin requires special care, and there are several natural remedies that can help make it its most beautiful. Here are some things you can try.

There are several great remedies for oily skin. What makes them especially great is that they can be made with things right out of your own kitchen or drug store. (They don't require the purchase of expensive oily skin care products.) Here are a few of my favorites:

  • A good natural astringent for your oily skin is witch hazel. Dab it on all over your face with a cotton ball and you'll feel quite refreshed.
  • A nice mask for your face: egg whites. It will make your skin feel less oily and a bit more taut. Some people like to whip an egg white until it forms stiff peaks and then spread it on their faces, avoiding their eye areas and being careful to not get it in their mouths.
  • Use a thin layer of honey to cover your skin. Honey has anti-bacterial properties and can help heal problem skin as well as moisturize it. Rinse it off with tepid water after fifteen minutes.
  • Cooling aloe vera gel can not only heal skin lesions, but also reduce the chance of future breakouts as well as moisturize your facial skin.

Or try this mask:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted (but not hot)

In a small bowl, beat the egg really well, until it becomes frothy. Slowly add the honey as well as the liquid coconut oil, continuing to beat until the mask is thick, about the consistency of mayonnaise.

Using either an empty toilet tissue roll set on end in a clean bowl or an empty old deodorant casing (the kind you can dial or push up) to contain the mixture, you'll need to carefully spoon the stuff into your chosen container and place the whole thing (tube and bowl or deodorant casing) into a freezer to sit overnight. After that, it's ready to use.

To use, just dial up if it's in a deodorant casing, or peel and/or snip away the cardboard roll 1/4 inch at a time so you can spread the stick of mask all over your face. Just leave it on for five to ten minutes and then rinse it off with some warm water and your face will be moisturized quite nicely.
