An updo is certainly the hairstyle to wear for a formal occasion. Of all updos, perhaps the French twist is the most elegant.
There are several kinds of French twists, and variations thereof. You can opt for the most structured twist, leaving no hair out of place for the most formal events, or a modified twist, leaving wisps of hair around your face and at the base of the neck, for a less formal situation. Severe French twists don't allow for bangs, while more casual twists do.
In either case, all French twist formations require basic hair equipment; bobby pins to match your hair coloring, a high quality styling brush such as a wide paddle or boar's head hairbrush, colorful clips or hair combs, and extra hold hairspray.
To begin, wet your hair and then pat in dry until it is slightly damp. Follow these steps to create a beautiful French twist:
Add jeweled clips, barrettes, flowers, or hair sticks for a dramatic effect. If you've short hair, you can add a few hair extensions to create a French twist.
