Using Sparkly Makeup

I remember in seventh grade when all the "cool" girls came to class with excessive sparkly eye shadow. Back in the days of thirteen-year-olds, that was part of the definition of "cool." Is it cool now to wear sparkly makeup? How does sparkly makeup fit into the world of adulthood? Some people may find sparkly makeup still fun and spunky, but you may not know when it's appropriate to wear.

In general, sparkly makeup shouldn't be worn for an everyday look. It can tend to look juvenile and even kind of trashy. For costumes, however, sparkly makeup may be the ticket. In the theater, they use sparkly makeup all the time because it's popping and you can really notice it from far away. For a night out on the town, if your outfit is more resembling of a costume, then a little bit of sparkly could work, but always use the sparkly makeup with discretion.

A better way to go—a more adult and sophisticated form of the junior-high sparkly makeup—is the shimmering makeup. Most eyes shadows now come with a "shimmer" factor and most of the time that can satisfy your sparkling need. You can even find shimmering powder, shimmering blush, shimmering eye liner, shimmering eye shadow, and shimmering lip gloss. You can shimmer anywhere and everywhere! However, you may not want to shimmer anywhere and everywhere, so picking one of two shimmering products will usually suffice and help create that appearance you're going for.

Sparkly makeup in terms of a shimmer is definitely not a problem and also a fun trend of the twenty-first century. Avoid the actual sparkly makeup, but feel free to experiment and have fun with the shimmering products out there. Don't go overboard and have a good time expressing yourself!
