Understanding a Summer Person

Summary: Summer colors are less intense, like the season itself can be. Use your summer palette to enhance your features and make you look stunning all year round.

When you think summer you think striped beach balls, red hot barbeques, dazzling fireworks, aquamarine swimming pools, and an ever present smiling yellow sun. You think color. The grass is green, the flowers still bloom, colors in the stores are bright, vibrant, and new. In the summer your life takes on color with block parties, scenic drives up the mountain, and steamy summer romances. However, despite all the color that may go on in your activities, bright colors don't flatter you very well if you're a Summer person. To look your best Summers, tone it down.

In the same category as its antithesis, Winter, Summers look best in colors with a silver or blue undertone, "cold" tones. (This is probably because Summers are so hot!). So what then is the difference between Winter colors and Summer colors if they are both cool? The difference lies in color intensity, however the more intense colors are not where you'd assume they'd be. The lesser intense colors are for the Summers. Dusty pinks, pastel yellows, baby blues are all for Summers. Summer colors are almost unclear, but still make a definite statement. Summers look great in muted pastels that highlight their face.

Summers traditionally have ashy blond hair (without salon highlights) and light blue or green eyes. Once again this is a bit surprising as you'd think that pastels would make a fair complexion look washed out, however that is not the case. Actually, the traditional Easter colors look great on Summers—the combination of hair color, eye color, and complexion allow for pastels to look stunning. Muted and baby colors allow for the complexion to not be overpowered by colors that are too intense. Wear eye makeup that is soft like your clothing colors. Keep it still pastel and nothing too gaudy.

Remember however, that not all fair-skinned, ashy-blond people are Summers—your season color is completely personalized and you might not fit into just one category. Some Winter colors may look good on you and some Summer colors may not. The trick with season colors is making sure it looks good on you; just because your best friend is a summer doesn't mean that the same thing will look good on both of you. There's a better chance, but it's not 100 percent guaranteed. That's what's so fun about your own color palette—it's completely your own and you have the power to look great all the time. With your pretty pastels and muted tones, you can look summer all year round!
