Makeup Tips for the Prom

Summary: Prom is one of the highlights of high school and you want to look perfect. You may have the dress, the shoes, and the hair down, but if you really want to make a bang, your makeup needs to be flawless and here's how to do it!

Getting all dressed up for the prom was one of the most fun processes when I was in high school. The whole prom process was exciting and it made me feel pretty; I got to pick out the dress, the shoes and I went to a salon to get my hair done. The finishing touch on my whole prom look was the makeup. I had a friend who went to college for theatre arts, and so she knew how to make my makeup be knockout. I was a bit shocked at first with the outcome, but only because I wasn't used to such a cosmetic contrast on my face. Prom is one of the perfect times to have your makeup look noticeable and here's how!

When you decide the look you want to do for your prom night, choose to accent either your lips or your eyes—emphasizing both will end up being too much. If you want to accentuate your lips, go bright. Reds and pinks are the best to use and really give your face a pop! If eyes are the way to want to go, apply some hot evening makeup.

You should smooth out your skin using a bit of light foundation (my favorite kind of light foundation is the pressed powder kind). When applying blush, feel free to be more liberal, but don't go so over the top you have pink circles on your cheeks. Most makeup for the daytime shouldn't be really noticeable and should look more natural than not, but when it comes to prom, it's okay for the makeup to be more conspicuous, as long as it's a good conspicuous!

The best way to make sure your makeup stays on all night is to set it before you even apply it. Put on some light, loose powder that will establish a smooth surface and will allow the makeup to stay on even through all the dancing!

Even though prom is a big night and you have more liberties with your makeup look, be careful to not go too far. Sometimes less is more and you can have a bigger impact without your makeup caked on. Feel free to be noticeable, but don't go too far.

You're now ready for this big night and you'll look stunning!
