Great Looking Modest Clothing

Summary: In today's belly showing, chest spilling fashion world, it's really difficult to find clothes that are modest and look great. It's a constant battle many of us have to fight. Take heart fashion soldiers and see that modesty isn't so hard to come by if you know where to find it!

Everywhere you look you can see girls baring it all: legs, belly, chest, and bottom. This seems to be much of the fashion for teens and even older women. The media and the stores we shop in tell us that "body sells," which really means "sex sells." So if you want boys to find you attractive or if you want to look "good," then wear practically nothing.

While this may be the mainstream trend, many of us do not want to wear the minimum, but rather wear modest clothes that maximize our beauty. I can relate from personal experience that shopping in the malls and department stores can be a frustrating and discouraging experience. Almost everywhere you look you find predominantly midriff-exposing tops, ultra ultra-low waist jeans, skin-tight everything, and plunging, breast-baring necklines. Is it possible to find fashionable modest clothing without looking like you just stepped out of the Victorian era? The answer is yes!

By far the best answer I've found to the modesty problem in my wardrobe is layering. I have dozens of camisoles, all in different colors and styles, that I can wear under just about anything to make it longer, higher, less see-through, or even just cuter. Layering is the key to making anything more modest. Once you acquire the basic camis and tanks, then you can really shop without dread of finding nothing.

The staples in your camisole collection should be at least one (and probably more) white tank top, at least one black tank top, and a ballet-pink tank top is always good to jazz up or tone down an outfit. Shopping for camisoles can actually be really fun! There are so many styles to choose from: silky, regular cotton, knit, stretchy, patterned, lacy, beaded, or embroidered. I've actually found some great long tanks in the intimates department at Old Navy.

Another great place to find modest clothing is Shade Clothing. They specialize in trendy, modest clothing and they have tons of deals and specials. Through this company you can buy wide-strap tank tops, skinny-strap camisoles, long-sleeve t-shirts, thermals, regular t-shirts in a myriad of styles, and also layering t-shirts that are close fitting and can go under another t-shirt, blouse, or what have you to really make anything modest. (One of the tricks I've learned with these t-shirts is layering a nude colored one under a white blouse or other see-through top to make it look opaque without it seeming like you're layering). Shade also sells dresses and swimsuits.

Yet another way to make your clothes modest is to purchase a couple of cute jackets and shrugs to wear over not-so-modest sleeveless tops. It's a great way to quickly make something you love modest and I think it makes it even cuter and trendier! Dressing modestly is possible! I know it's hard to believe when you take a stroll in any shopping complex, but rest assured it can happen. Dressing modestly isn't stodgy—it's classy.
